Our Brothers, along with staff at the Mardyke House Community, at the heart of Cork City, Ireland run the L.E.A.F. PROJECT. The Leadership, Education and Formation Project is a new ministry focused on helping young adults increase their knowledge of the Catholic faith and developing young faith leaders for the future. The Mardyke House Community in collaboration with the Diocese of Cork and Ross, the UCC Chaplaincy team and other faith groups has become a hub for young adult ministry and evangelisation.
Each year will offer a number of places in our Community to young Catholic men (20-35), who wish to spend a year intentionally discerning their vocation in life while living in the context of a religious community. If you are a young man considering your call in life, spending this time as part of an intentional community of discernment, may be exactly what you need to deepen your relationship with Christ and discern where the Lord is calling you. Prayer, formation and living the Presentation community life and mission are part of this experience.
It is open to single young Catholic men who wish to spend a year intentionally discerning vocation and growing in their Catholic faith. Participants may be college students, workers or volunteers.
The year will involve experiences of prayer (Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, the Liturgy of the Hours, Rosary), living in community, spiritual accompaniment, input that focuses on the beauty and richness of the Catholic faith, and voluntary ministry in service of the mission of the community. Beyond studies or work, participants will need to commit priority time to the formation programme and community experience. Therefore, to provide for this focus, those taking part will be asked to commit to a ‘dating fast’ while they are part of the community. During the year, participants in the programme gain a unique insight into the life, charism and mission of the Presentation Brothers. Participants are also invited to consider the Presentation way of life as part of their discernment.
The programme is sponsored by the Presentation Brothers, as a contribution to the mission of faith formation of young people. However, depending on means, participants will contribute a modest amount towards living costs and the running of the community. This will be decided in dialogue with each individual participant. However, lack of funds will not be an impediment to taking part in the programme, reach out to us if interested. Admission will involve an application process and interview.
We believe this year will help young Catholic men grow in faith, deepen their relationship with Christ and discern more clearly to which vocational path, the Lord, in His love, may be calling them.
